In the United States, approximately 50 million people are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease because they lack access to fundamental needs such as healthy food, clean air, clean drinking water, employment, quality education and housing. These factors are critical to individual health despite modern day advances in disease prevention and treatment. In fact, County Health Rankings show radically disparate data across economic, racial and ethnic groups, accrediting only 20% of a person’s health to clinical medical care. Social and environmental conditions determine the rest. Through our ten-year relationship with The American Heart Association (AHA), the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, KLA has regularly taken opportunities to promote equitable health access and treatment for members of our community.
Now, we are excited to announce the KLA Social Equity Fund, in collaboration with the AHA, to connect financial resources with non-profit organizations committed to breaking down systemic inequities. This $1.5 million fund specifically benefits the South Bay/Silicon Valley and Metro Detroit areas where KLA has U.S. headquarters, implementing a locally driven investment strategy shaped by community health and business needs. The fund is currently seeking applications from non-profits for affected communities in Silicon Valley, South Bay and Metro Detroit Areas. We encourage locally owned and operated small non-profit organizations offering sustainable, long-term solutions to food and housing insecurity, access to health care and income equality to submit a Statement of Interest in the KLA Social Equity Fund. The American Heart Association will be hosting a virtual Town Hall where attendees can learn more about the Fund, securing investment and ask questions. The Town Hall meetings will be held on:
Tuesday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. PT for the Silicon Valley/South Bay (Register Here!)
Wednesday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. CT for Metro Detroit Area (Register Here!)
We can’t wait to see you there! In the meantime, be sure to check out the KLA Foundation website and get all the details from the press release!
