Celebrating Pride Month: KLA Launches LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group

Jun 16, 2022 2 min read

KLA celebrated Pride Month in June 2022 with the global launch of its newest employee resource group (ERG), PRISM. Standing for where Pride, Respect, Inclusion and Solidarity Meet, PRISM’s mission is to amplify KLA’s commitment to equality and inclusion by encouraging a safe and open working environment for LGBTQ+ employees and allies.

“It’s important to have an inclusive workplace where everyone feels comfortable enough to be open about who they are and be their true selves, and PRISM will help foster an environment of belonging among LGBTQ+ employees, managers and executives.”

Susan Wagner, vice president, global workplace services and PRISM executive sponsor, says the new ERG will encourage a greater sense of belonging among LGBTQ+ employees and reinforce the company as a welcoming workplace where all employees can contribute to the company’s success.

“After I came out of the closet as a lesbian in my personal life, I remained closeted at work for 10 years before coming out professionally,” Susan explains. “I found support and community in the LGBTQ+ employee resource group at my former workplace. When all employees feel they belong, they can contribute that much more to advancing KLA. PRISM will help LGBTQ+ employees feel they can come to KLA and be authentic in who they are.”

With the global launch of PRISM, a steering committee will work to build membership and awareness through discussion forums and related events. PRISM will advocate for a safe and supportive environment, increase outreach in the talent pipeline and create opportunities for engagement.

PRISM’s kickoff event included a live webcast presentation by activist, author and actor Dylan Marron, who spoke about the importance of engaging in conversations with LGBTQ+ detractors rather than debating them. In relaying lessons learned from his podcast, Conversations with People Who Hate Me, Dylan pointed out that empathy doesn’t mean endorsement: While we may not agree with each other, we can still relate to each other as human beings.

As part of KLA’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, the company regularly celebrates the culture and achievements of its diverse workforce. Check out some recent employee events, including our celebrations of International Women’s Day and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
